A Volte Si Parla D'amore...

This is the kind of blog post I try extra hard to never do. The kind that talks about serious things; the kind that spits out to the public (of like...4 people) what is rambling around aimlessly in my head. But I'll make it quick. And here it goes:

One of the most profound things I've heard in the last little while about dating and about love came from ELDER'S QUORUM. I know miracle right? Amongst the legions of 20-somethings flinging angry birds at walls and checking ESPN on their smart phones, my friend Robby Meldau related dating to pizza, and it totally clicked for me. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I shouldn't be surprised. Not only do I love food but since I did live in Italy as missionary and all... Anyway I can't remember the context of the conversation, but he talked about how we are always too eager to make a relationship work every time there's a little spark. Every time we feel anything at all, we get all overly excited and impatient about this one, being THE one. The analogy was that we often try to "pull the pizza out of the oven too early, before it's done." And it's so true. Be patient, let things run their proper course and the reward will be so great.

Also I'm hungry.

My second thought is something I'm sometimes guilty of, but I think a lot of us do it. The old saying is "don't put all your eggs in one basket," but sometimes I think that's the worst thing you can do in dating and relationships. Sure it's important to date around, to have lots of friends of the opposite gender to get perspective, but if you like someone, and you think it's right, go all in. The worst thing you can do is to be enamored with someone one day, and then worry about getting hurt and hang out with 4 other people during the week just so that if the first option doesn't work, you can pretend it never mattered to you that much anyway. We all need ways to cope with rejection and frustrations, but be brave, have hope, and most of all, be honest with yourself and those around you.

Sorry if that got a little weird, haha. Just to ruin the whole mood of the post...sometimes planking makes me laugh, even though it's so dumb. Something about seeing a 7 foot man (Javale McGee) in a freezer (with PIZZAS. There's the connection!) just gets me every time.

Sometimes-

-School takes over your life. And you don't see your roommate awake for 48 hours. And you keep hearing the music playing at the library at night. And you stop exercising as much as you should. Yup, this is one of those weeks. But somehow I've still found a way to start thinking about which one of these phones to get when my phone contract is up:

And I have also recently been wanting a Kindle Fire so badly. What's up with me being so materialistic all of the sudden? Anyway, Guster is one of my favorite bands.(perfect segue right?) I could talk Guster all day long, but since I need to take a test in an hour and twenty minutes, I'll just throw up a video. (I tried to upload one from their last SLC concert I went to, but it was taking foreverrrr)
Anyway, put the headphones in and turn it up a bit, this one's fun.

Anyway, I got to meet these guys the second time I saw them live, and they were so cool. Just real normal and fun people that have families and make great music.

Hidden Gems

Sometimes you stumble upon things that are just amazing. Such as the reviews of Provo Movies 8 on their website:

User reviews on Cinemark Provo Movies 8

5
Great movie theater. My wife accidentally left her baby in the baby changing station in the super nice bathroom next to the luxurious hand dryers. We found out the next day and went to the movie theatre and they went through all the lost and found babies just to find it for her. It was groomed and potty trained and now we'll never have to use the baby changing station again. Great service, great management, great baby get away.

Giuseppina Morabito

Last week, I found out that my friend Giusy Morabito passed away. I met Giusy (short for Giuseppina) in the city of Sanremo in the fall of 2007.

I was working with the other missionary in our district, Anziano Hill, and we had decided to pray about where to go knock on doors. We decided on an apartment complex a little ways up the hill, and after ringing at a few doors, someone asked us to come on up. Giusy, who was around 60 years old then, was there with some friends, and it was really weird how friendly they were; they acted like we were supposed to be there for the party or something. Anyway they asked us a few questions, and we told them briefly about who we were and about our message, and Giusy said we could come back any time we wanted. We began to come back and teach her, and she began to warm up to our message more and more. When we would talk about repentance, she was visibly sad about things that she had done in her past. She began to come to church, and in February of 2008 she was baptized a new member of the Sanremo branch.

Giusy had battled with breast cancer in the past, and while I have yet to hear for certain her cause of death, I'm assuming it was related to that. I've always looked back on my time spent with Giusy very fondly-although I taught many people in Italia, she was the only Italian that ever joined the church during the time I was serving in the area. She had marvelous faith, and a great desire to come closer to God and to find peace in her life.

In my young life I have yet to encounter death come to those close to me. Occasionally I'll go to bed thinking about what it would feel like to lose someone, and thinking about how blessed I have been so far in my life to have my close family and friends with me still. I can only imagine that Giusy is at peace now, and that the many sufferings she dealt with in life have finally left her. I'm grateful for the great influence she was on my life and all those around her.

The video I posted above is by my favorite Italian artist: Jovanotti. Some of the lyrics to the song are:

"Ma l'unico pericolo che sento veramente,
E' quello di non riuscire piĆ¹ a sentire niente...
Io lo so che non sono solo,
Anche quando sono solo.

Io lo so che non sono solo."

"The only fear that I really feel
is to no longer be able to feel anything at all
I know that I'm not alone,
Even when I'm alone.

I know that I'm not alone."
